Nodelets documentation
Nodelets is a control plane for the Internet of Things. A bridge runs on a machine beside your equipment and dials out to the Nodelets cloud. A definition file describes each device, and each device then becomes a Nodelet: a named set of properties, actions and events that programs reach over REST and WebSocket, AI clients reach over MCP, and that has a W3C Thing Description.
Pre-release
Section titled “Pre-release”Nodelets is pre-release and runs on staging only. Accounts and data can be reset, there is no password reset, and the behaviour described here can change between builds. The hosts named on these pages are staging hosts:
| Purpose | Host |
|---|---|
| Dashboard, sign-in and approving the CLI | https://dashboard.staging.nodelets.com |
| REST API and WebSocket | https://api.staging.nodelets.com |
| MCP endpoint | https://mcp.staging.nodelets.com/mcp |
| Installer | https://staging.nodelets.com/install.sh |
How these pages are arranged
Section titled “How these pages are arranged”The documentation has four sections. Each page belongs to one of them.
- Tutorials take you through a complete task from the start, with every step written out. Begin with Read your first device.
- How-to guides answer one practical question each, such as adding an MQTT device or recovering a bridge. They assume you have a bridge running.
- Reference lists the exact commands, routes, messages, fields and error codes: the CLI, the REST API, the WebSocket, the MCP tools, the definition format and outcomes and errors.
- Explanation describes how Nodelets works and why, starting with How Nodelets works. It also says plainly what Nodelets does not do.
What you need
Section titled “What you need”A Linux machine with systemd or a Mac, on amd64 or arm64, with curl and administrator rights. The tutorials also use Python 3 to run a small practice device. There is no Windows build.
